When she was young she wanted to have her birthday with her friends so because her birthday is in the middle of summer holidays we would have it a month early before school let out. 
I was not brought up in a family that acknowledged or did much about birthdays however I had much fun making her days special when she was young. When she went away to University and I moved to the west coast I became remiss in acknowledging her birthday regularly. 
Bless her heart she is an incurable romantic and loves tradition and making family and friends' days special.
Moms are not suppose to forget! 
So for all the times I was not there or didn't wish you Happy Birthday Gen.... I am sorry.Happy Birthday Genevieve!!

I'm like you - birthdays weren't a big deal in my family (I was an only child), and I find it very hard to do all singing and dancing celebrations for my children. Here in the city birthdays for children and young people are something of a competitive sport, and I'm not into that.

Sweet. When my little one (now far away in college) with a summer bday was in grade school, a teacher had "6-mo bdays" for the summer bday kids--she loved that, along with Mom's cupcakes that got squished on the way to school...

Hmmm. I was always jealous of my sister's July birthday because she had parties outdoors and they were always such fun. I was born in winter, which at the time I thought was BORING. ;-)

I enjoyed the growing up photos. I had so much fun with my kids' birthdays. I kind of miss all the planning and excitement now that they have families of their own.
