SkyWatch Friday ~ Skies Across Canada

Dusk on the beach at Tlell, Haida Gwaii Thursday, December 10th. I left Haida Gwaii, BC on Thurdsay, December 10 for a trip 2/3rds of the way across Canada. The skies across this huge country are beautiful.

I dedicate this post to my Greyhound Refugee Buddies, eight of us who were abandoned by Greyhound in Edmonton, Alberta to fend for ourselves. By coming together, standing up for each other everybody got home despite Greyhound Canada(another post). The loading dock of BC Ferries at Skidegate, BC 11p.m. Thursday, December 10th.
Along the Skeena River about 30 minutes out of Prince Rupert, BC.
Friday, December 11th.
The mighty Skeena River, BC.
Close encounters along the Skeena River, BC.Is that blue sky? Three Sisters Mountain, Hazelton, BC. From west of Prince George, BC to east of the Rockies we travelled in the dark.An icy dawn in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies, Alberta.

West of Edmonton, Alberta December 12th (I think it is an oil processing plant?)
Icy fog in Edmonton, Alberta Sunday, December 13th. The coldest day on record for Edmonton and the coldest spot on earth this day!
Dawn over the Saskatchewan prairies, Monday, December 14th between Calgary and Regina.
Leaving Regina, Saskatchewan on Monday, December 14th.
Cold winds and sunshine leaving Saskatchewan Monday, December 14th.
Manitoba was travelled in the dark. This is just outside Thunder Bay, Ontario overlooking Lake Superior Tuesday, December 15th
From west of Sault Ste. Marie to just outside Ottawa, Ontario we travelled in the dark.
Arrived in Ottawa at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 16th five days, 10 hours, 5500kms. and too many buses later!
To see other beautiful skies from around the world why not join us at

That first photo is breath taking. The rest of the series is great. I will not say it is cold here again (only -1!)

Excellent shots Carolyn, did you make it to the Casino in Regina? And that building with the teepee you were asking about is the First Nations University of Canada. I have some pics of it on my blog.

All the best :)

Lovely photos! I read that it went down to -46.1C in Edmonton and I wondered how anyone could possibly survive that. But I see that you are okay. Sounds like a great journey. Keep warm!

I dont think I would like to be Greyhound Canada by the time you have finished with them.

That is an adventure across Canada that I aspire to in the not-too-distant future.

What a journey! I've heard more than a few horror stories about traveling by Greyhound bus, but you made the most of your trip with all the fine photographs.

Crossing Canada at this time of year is a brave undertaking, but it looks like it was a most spectacularly beautiful trip, albeit very long and not without it's trials.

The pics are wonderful and I loved my trans Canada trip and am happy to know you made it safely.

How crazy are those temps in Edmonton?!?!!!

Great photos all but I particularly liked the first and the last. The Rideau Canal looks wonderful.

West of Edmonton? I think it might be their coal-fired electricity generation plant.

That's quite the trip to make by Greyhound! You're a brave soul!

Epic is the word for your travels, Carolyn. I'll look forward to reading the account of the people power episode.

I've been catching up. You've been really busy and traveling a lot since I was last able to read your posts. Your bus trip across Canada was quite an adventure and ordeal. But the joy of a new grandchild will make it all so wonderful. - Margy
