SkyWatch Friday ~ Winter's Icy Grip

Rideau Falls meets the Ottawa River
One of the things I enjoy about being back in the east is snow and winter. I realize most of you think I might be a little nuts but I love four seasons and on Haida Gwaii there generally is one season....rainy!
Icy sumac with the Rideau Canal locks in the background.
Currently I am in Ottawa and environs and there is not a lot of snow but there has definitely been a lot of cold mixed with some freezing rain. Once the rain moves on there is some splendid beauty.
Light standard on Majors Hill Park
The mighty Ottawa River is slowly freezing and is enhanced by the Creator's Glory.
Parliament Hill, Ottawa, Ontario
I never tire of this view.

Great Ottawa shots! Four seasons are the best. I just wish winter was a bit shorter. Nothing says beauty like icy branches!

Ug! Ottawa winters are so HUMID! Glad you're enjoying it, though.

Great frozen scenes. I like the last shot best with the steeples in the center.

ice storms are so beautiful, I like all 4 season also but why does winter always seem to last the longest?

BTW if you're not living on the edge you're taken up to much room!

Fantastic winter shots, Carolyn, but oh it does look sooooo cold! And yet the winter beauty is there sometimes we just have to look a little harder for it -- not here though, it's everywhere!

Have a great weekend and stay warm!

Beautiful winter images, Carolyn. The first shot is amazing, and I love ice on the branches. The last shot is beautiful. Never been to Ottawa, but my son is getting married there in May...

Great series of shots. I loved the sun over the river best.

Great photos! It looks as cold there as it is here in the Cariboo! I am accustomed to rain, having grown up on Vancouver Island. We have precious little of the wet stuff here...any precip mostly falls as Snow.

Winter is really, really beautiful in the Cariboo, but I wish it was not so very long.

Catching up on your eastern adventures, Carolyn. The icy coating on everything is beautiful, but I bet it's treacherous underfoot - unless the city has great pavement maintenance?

Thanks so much for your kind wishes. My Dad is improving a bit, and it's good to have him out of the high dependency unit. Still a long way to go, but he's more like himself.
