Tow Hill is the remnents of an ancient volcano that erupted at the edge of the sea, was cooled by the sea and then eroded by the sea and glacial action. What is left on the north side is the basalt columns of the core of the volcano. It is 300' above sealevel which isn't that high but when it is the only bump on the landscape it seems high.

Love these, yes, liquid mercury is an apt description.
Beautiful, and I love reading the history of the land in the artifacts left behind, like that cliff... Wonderful!
p.s. I see you're a Philip Glass fan, too. A glass of wine, some Glass music, and a view like that be heaven!
Beautiful basalt columns. They seem to have greenery growing out of them.
Love the silver sea and clouds. Great captures.
So very interesting to read about the geological history of where tou live. And to see your wonderful shots. That one of the sky,sea and sun is dreamy.
I always find geology fascinating. And that view.... perfect!
Interestingly different skies...ours have been clear and blue blue blue...we have even had some hot summer days and it isn't even Spring here in Australia yet!
Carolyn, these are gorgeous. Makes me long for the steely grays of the NW. It's like a soft blanket covers the landscape. Great captures.
stunning photos...love the mood of these photos, especially the one with silvery water.

Beautiful tones in these photos. The cliffs are really stunning. And all those washed-up tree trunks on the shore line - that's one of the features of BC for me. We just don't get that here.
