This is one of my all time favourite poems. I had to memorize it in school when I was ten and I have never forgotten it. I often repeat it before I sleep. Soaring(gliding) is on my Bucket List!

High Flight
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious, burning blue,
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.

Beautiful poem and beautiful depiction of soaring. A worthy choice for your bucket list.
I love this poem too. It was read at my uncle's funeral earlier this year.
For me, your poem and image are a perfect marriage, beautiful!
So lovely to have a taste of your world.

Ah, Carolyn -
My mother read me that poem. Had not thought of it in a while. We could not remember the author. Your posting brought it back - Thanks!
Beautiful shot and great poem. Love the reflection. MB
