My World Tuesday ~ Looking Away

It's below zero this morning and the roads are black ice so I'm grounded. I am housesitting in Tlell, Haida Gwaii, British Columbia, located on the east coast of Graham Island which is the largest of the more than 150 islands and islets which make up this archipelago. All that to say there are beautiful sunrises on this side of the island! Too often the rush in the morning is to get out and capture the sunrise which is great but not often enough do I look around me to see the beauty the rising sun bestows on the rest of the earth. So this morning when I walked the beach I walked away from the sunrise. Ahead of me to the north the morning sun emblazens the the dune cliffs at the mouth of Tlell River. To the east the cold temperature and clear skies has created a temperature inversion and something known as Fata Morgana which allows you to see the mountains of mainland British Columbia some 90 km away which because of the curve of the earth you can not usually see. I don't understand it entirely but I know that it usuaully only happens on cold clear winter days.(Click on the photo to see the mainland mountains.)
When I look back the soft colours of the November dawn highlight the beauty of the beach
and the dune grasses to the west.
Looking for Marley, I find him waiting on a piece of beach sculpture, blending in.Walking back along the edge of the tideline. These are moments I will remember.

Watery Wednesday ~ Where waters meet

(Click on any photo to enlarge and see more detail)
Went for a walk on Sunday to the mouth of the Tlell (tell-lel)River which in Haida means "place of great surf and abundant berries". The day was perfect and the colours phenomenal.
Ocean water mixing with fresh water at the mouth of the Tlell River.
When the tide comes in the Tlell River reverses direction for six hours twice a day for about five kilometers up river.
