Totem Pole on the Move

Chief Sid Crosby's totem pole is complete and ready to be raised but first it needs to be moved.

Now it is time to move it, the preparations begin.

to it's destination just over three kilometers(1.8 miles) away

Thank you for sharing the beautiful photos. I haven't had a chance to ask Erica how the pole-raising and potlatch went. It looks like the weather held and the event was enjoyed by all.

Moving the totem pole is quite a community project. It's a beautiful work of art.

The totem pole is carved from a western red cedar with the heartwood(core)and a little less than have the back removed. Cedar is very strong and extremely light when it dries...an then...many hands make light work!
Kay, Erica was absolutely stunning at the potlatch and worked hard as well.
