SkyWatch Friday ~ A Day in a Life

araneus diadematus or common garden spider with a body the size of my thumb nail!
Ferry gull, not sure who he/she is meant to scare off.
This 47 foot Fin Whale (Balaenoptera physalus) washed up on the beach last Friday(more about him next week)
Six jets flying in formation at over 30,000 feet heading south...the noise was deafening.

Hiya Caroly,
That makes me wonder where on earth one has to be living in order not to have the sky torn asunder by contrails.

I thought you would be in one of those places.

Still, multiply this by hundreds of times a day, and you know what we hear and see :-)

The rest is peaceful for you anyways. And what are you to do with a big whale? Holding my breath :-0

That spider web shot is amazing. Love to see them shine in the sunlight. A whale and noisy jets, wow, you sure have had a busy week.

Each of your beautiful photos tells an interesting story. I love the sky backdrop for the web … very creative to have thought of it. The gull is sitting pretty in front of the sparkling waters with what looks like another gull in the distance coming to join him. I thought the beached whale was a rock at first and wish that it was because it seems to be in serious trouble. The planes making clouds in the sky can sure cause a lot of noise! We often hear them at odd hours in SW BC.

Love your spider pic-- it's that time of year, isn't it? Boy, we get some big ones. I'm interested in hearing more about the poor whale.

Can't wait to hear the story of the whale! Your weather is extreme again today; I wish I was there to watch that awesome power of wind and rain and ocean...

Spiders here are quite different from the huge wonders I remember from the Coast. They are smaller and just a little more aggressive. That was a gorgeous shot of your spider!

Batten down the hatches today, Carolyn!!

I'm not exactly sure why but the ferry gull amuses me! :-)

I'm curious to know about the whale. I hope it died of natural causes...

Great photos, as always.

So sad about the whale. I'll wait to hear the tale. We went to the nearby Navy base that has jets and sub chaser aircraft. It must have been a full practice day because they were screaming around the pattern doing touch and goes. - Margy

All your photos tug at my ocean longing! Have you heard of the project one inch of quiet? It's a movement towards protecting spaces from man made noise. Hearing all those jets up where you are must be a bit frustrating. These are lovely photos! sorry about the whale.
